In 1995 this lab was developed to keep pace with the new technology introduced by many fire alarm manufacturers. With hard-wired fire alarm system installations on the decline, and the utilization of addressable fire alarm systems being the latest technology, there was an urgent need to provide all our members with the knowledge to install these systems. We received generous donations from Notifier, and developed several movable fire alarm system trainers. Individuals utilize these trainers to learn how to wire different types of systems. All these skills are passed on to our apprentices in day school and our journeymen members have the opportunity to take one of three Skill Improvement classes, Fire Alarm 1 (Introduction to Fire Alarm Systems), Fire Alarm 2 (Introduction to NICET certification), or Fire Alarm 3 (Troubleshooting and Maintaining Fire Alarm Systems). This lab also has several fire alarm systems that utilize older technology. These skills are necessary to teach electricians who service old fire alarm systems.
